At ACHEMA 2022, the world’s leading trade show for the process industry, over 2,200 exhibitors from more than 50 countries showcased the latest equipment and innovative processes for the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries at the Frankfurt fairgrounds from 22 to 26 August. In addition to 2,211 exhibitors from 51 countries, more than 70,000 participants from 127 nations attended this year’s ACHEMA. These travelers comprised about 46% of ACHEMA’s attendees. Natoli’s presence at the show was in the “Pharmaceutical, Packaging and Storage Techniques” exhibitors’ hall. This was the second largest group of exhibitors at the show, according to a final report released by ACHEMA; the majority of exhibitors were in the “Pumps, Compressors, and Valve Fittings” exhibitor group.
Demonstrating Preformulation and USP 1062 Thought Leadership
The first of two Tech Talks we presented, Tooling Fundamentals, Specifications & Troubleshooting, addressed how manufacturers can address late-stage issues by having a proper understanding of tooling fundamentals, or by having the correct cup depth configuration with respect to their tablet design. The second Tech Talk, Tablet Characterization Methods, Industry Best Practices following Regulatory Compliance USP 1062, instructed R&D scientists and technicians how a root cause analysis of sticking and picking can solve these issues before they arise in late-stage development—and after a drug has been registered with authorities. “We want customers to know that we can not only solve sticking problems, but by understanding why (the powder) is sticking, we can prevent it from happening in the first place,” said Natoli Scientific’s Director, Robert Sedlock. When issues arise in late-stage development, solving them is simply “band-aiding the fix,” he continued.
To solve that challenge, Natoli Engineering demonstrated how its products and services can help keep tableting manufacturers compliant with USP Chapter <1062> regulations:
- The NP-RD10A, when combined with Natoli AIM™ Pro software, helps scientist gather fundamental USP 1062 data to analyze compactibility, tabletability, and compressibility profiles.
- The NP-RD30, which allows scientists to scale up their formulation while still vetting USP 1062 profiles, even in single station mode.
- The free web-based TabletCAD™, which allows engineers to see, among other things, the effect of a change in punch cup on a tablet’s shape and manufacturability.
Attendees Demand an Experience, Natoli Delivers
Whether seated in in the Kontrast Room in Hall 3.Via, or standing with us at Booth H49, Natoli’s events created a hands-on learning experience for attendees. “The best part of being at ACHEMA in person is promoting digitalization tools with hands-on demonstrations.” emphasized Helen Bartmann, project manager for digitalization projects at Actemium. “This is much harder to do virtually than at ACHEMA, where we can meet with clients and partners to discuss specific solutions to their challenges.” And Natoli was there to deliver for people who, after four years, were eager to engage in hands-on, in-person demonstrations.
Whether it’s tablets, capsules, or mini-tablets within capsules, the quality of tooling and machinery helps manufacturers produce it. And as a trade show exhibitor, Natoli Engineering’s demonstrated to the pharmaceutical industry how our customers can rely on our expertise not just for tooling and engineering, but for scientific challenges in the oral solid dose industry as well.
The next ACHEMA is scheduled to take place in Frankfurt again, from June 10 to 14 2024.
